About Storm hockey

Storm Hockey Academy is dedicated to inclusivity through its Field Hockey Academy, offering programs for students of all levels, irrespective of their field hockey background. In addition to providing comprehensive training encompassing technical skills, tactics, strength, conditioning, and performance education, we are committed to extending opportunities to underprivileged kids.

We provide three levels of programs.
TEAM BEGINNER

(Team Beginner) This group consists of young players, ages 4 to 8, who are newcomers to the sport of hockey. Storm Hockey Academy welcomes players starting at the age of 4, providing an opportunity for parents to introduce their children to the game early. The coaches at Storm Hockey Academy focus on teaching the fundamental skills of hockey through engaging techniques and enjoyable training sessions.

  1. Age Group Specificity: The program is designed for children aged 4 to 8. This age range is critical as it focuses on early childhood, a period when motor skills are rapidly developing. By starting at this young age, children have the opportunity to build foundational skills that can be enhanced as they grow.
  2. Early Introduction to Sport: By allowing enrollment from the age of 4, the academy encourages parents to introduce their children to organized sports at a young age. This early exposure is beneficial for developing not only specific sports skills but also general physical coordination, discipline, and teamwork.
  3. Educational Approach: The coaching at Storm Hockey Academy emphasizes the correct basic skills of hockey. This foundational focus ensures that young players learn the proper techniques from the beginning, which is crucial for their development in the sport. This approach reduces the risk of developing bad habits that can be harder to correct later on.
  4. Engaging and Fun Learning Environment: The program uses engaging techniques and ensures that training sessions are enjoyable. Making the learning process fun is essential at this age to maintain interest and enthusiasm among the young players. Enjoyable experiences also encourage regular participation, helping children to consistently practice and improve their skills.
  5. Developmental Benefits: Beyond learning hockey, participating in this program can offer young players numerous developmental benefits, including improved physical health, better social skills through interaction with peers, enhanced concentration, and a sense of achievement and confidence from mastering new skills.
TEAM INTERMEDIATE

(Intermediate Team) The players in this group have a grasp of hockey fundamentals but are still on their way to mastering them. In this phase, the emphasis will be on refining and energizing essential hockey skills. Players will engage in more intense training sessions to accelerate their development. Additionally, Storm Hockey Academy employs former state players as coaches to deepen the players’ comprehension of contemporary hockey strategies and concepts.

  1. Skill Refinement: At the intermediate level, players already have basic knowledge and ability in hockey. The focus now shifts towards refining these skills to make them more precise and effective. This involves deepening their understanding of the mechanics and execution of each skill.
  2. Dynamic Training: To energize the players’ skills, the training is made dynamic. This likely includes varying the drills and scenarios in which these skills are applied, adding complexity to the tasks, and incorporating movement and strategic elements that mimic real-game situations.
  3. Increased Training Intensity: To aid quicker improvement, the intensity of the workouts and drills is increased. This higher intensity helps to not only build physical endurance and strength but also to push the players to adapt and perform under more challenging conditions, thus speeding up their development.
  4. Expert Coaching: By employing former state players as coaches, the academy ensures that the training and insights provided come from individuals who have practical, high-level experience in the sport. These coaches can share nuanced tactics and strategies from their extensive personal experience, offering a deeper and more nuanced understanding of modern hockey.
  5. Focus on Modern Game Strategies: The training also incorporates contemporary strategies and concepts of hockey. This means that players are not only learning skills in a vacuum but are applying them in contexts that reflect current trends and competitive practices in the sport. This keeps the training relevant and forward-thinking.
team elite

(Team Elite) The players in this group have a comprehensive understanding of hockey, including its rules, tactics, and technical aspects. Storm Hockey Academy provides coaching by current and former Malaysian players, as well as former youth players from Malaysia, specifically for this elite group. The focus here is on ramping up the intensity of the training, adopting more aggressive tactics, and preparing players to excel and win in every competition they enter.

  1. Advanced Player Proficiency: Players in the Elite Team are not beginners or intermediates; they possess a thorough understanding of all aspects of hockey—rules, game tactics, and technical skills. Their advanced knowledge sets the stage for a more focused and intense training regimen, aimed at polishing and enhancing these skills to professional levels.
  2. Highly Qualified Coaches: The coaching staff for this group consists of current and former Malaysian national players, including those who have played at the youth level for Malaysia. This caliber of coaching provides not only high-level technical instruction but also insights into professional play and personal experiences from national and international arenas. These coaches have firsthand experience with what it takes to succeed at higher levels of competition.
  3. Increased Training Intensity: For elite players, the intensity of training is significantly higher than that of lower levels. This includes both physical and mental aspects of training. Physical intensity could involve more rigorous conditioning sessions, advanced skill drills, and tactical games that simulate high-pressure scenarios. Mental intensity involves strategic thinking, quick decision-making, and psychological resilience, which are crucial for top-level competition.
  4. Aggressive Tactics: The training emphasizes adopting aggressive tactics. This means that players are trained to be assertive in gameplay, make bold moves, and maintain a high tempo. This approach not only improves their ability to control the game and unsettle opponents but also prepares them for the vigorous nature of competitive matches.
  5. Championship Mentality: The ultimate goal of the training is to prepare players to win and excel in every match they participate in. This involves cultivating a championship mentality—developing the mindset of winners who strive for excellence, are resilient under pressure, and can overcome any challenges during competition. This mindset is fostered through repetitive success-oriented drills, scenarios that require maintaining high performance under stress, and continuous feedback from experienced coaches.
